We believe that Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly, and that we all have an important role to play in ministering his life-giving love to one another (Ephesians 4v11-12, v15-16). We want to be walking side-by-side as we seek to follow him.
We aim to be a community which is gentle and humble, and which walks in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us (Ephesians 4v2, 5v1-2). We long to reflect the kind, Shepherd heart of God and to share his love with the wider community and with one another.
An important source of pastoral care is from others in the church and fellow Connect Group members. The leadership always seeks to give pastoral oversight and support as needed. You can, of course, also at any time contact Clive, our Minister, to chat or to arrange a meeting. If you’re just getting to know Abbey, Clive and Kerstin would also love to be of help.
There are three particular sources of pastoral support, shown below, each of which highlights a given responsibility for pastoral care of one another at Abbey.
Side-by-Side
Friendship and fellowship in Christ is a wonderful gift.
The pastoral oversight of the leadership and the teaching ministry seeks to equip everyone in the church to be caring for one another actively, so that the body of Christ builds itself up in love.
Connect Group Leaders
Connect Group leaders are always there to help, and they welcome being contacted by individuals or couples seeking pastoral help and support. These leaders are encouraged and supported in this pastoral work by the eldership, with Clive and Kerstin Bowsher together taking a particular role.
Pastoral Care Team
This team is appointed by the church eldership to coordinate and ensure the good provision of one-to-one, two-to-one and two-to-two pastoral care across the fellowship. The team consists of our Minister and his wife (Clive and Kerstin), our Women’s Pastoral Worker (Beth) and our Pastor-in-training (Dan). All four are actively engaged in provision of this care and also welcome being contacted at any time. If you feel you would benefit from a conversation at the moment, please email one of the team members directly or contact them at PastoralCare@abbeyonline.org.uk.
