Safeguarding at
Abbey Baptist Church
At Abbey Baptist Church we regard safeguarding as not simply a legal responsibility but a Christian responsibility. The Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to bring people into his kingdom for eternal safety. It is therefore our responsibility to do all we can to ensure all people who visit or are a part of our church are safe.
Our elders seek to model good safeguarding in their practice and hold each other accountable. All members of the church and congregation are also able to raise any concerns with our safeguarding team. If they do not feel comfortable doing that within the church there are local and national bodies where concerns can be raised (see below). The church trustees have overall legal responsibility of safeguarding matters in the church.
All those with responsibility for children and vulnerable adults are DBS checked and receive safeguarding training. The trustees also receive safeguarding training appropriate to their responsibility.
